When people think of cleaning jobs, the stereotype of being stuck cleaning toilets with no hope of promotion is often what enters people’s minds; however this couldn’t be further from the truth.
There are many different types of cleaning positions available; some of these include industrial cleaners, commercial cleaners, supervisors, managers, admin staff, and many more. As you can see, there is actually a lot of flexibility in what you can do and achieve in a cleaning job.
If commercial cleaning is not what you expected, there is always the industrial side, plus over time you may end up in a manager position or somewhere similar, the opportunities are certainly there to be grasped.
Commercial Cleaning Jobs
Commercial cleaning jobs are very common and are spread among many different types of workplaces and establishments. One commercial cleaner may find themselves working in a supermarket, another could be in an office, and another could be working in a school.
These cleaners would generally be cleaning premises used by the public or commercial business premises, utilising basic cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mops, wipes etc. This type of cleaning may also be easier to get into at first; as it usually does not require any specialised knowledge or experience.
Industrial Cleaning Jobs
Industrial cleaning jobs would take place in places like factories, high-tech business facilities and other locations with specialist equipment and materials. Some cleaning may also even be outside as opposed to indoor cleaning.
For this type of work, a cleaner may have to know how to use more heavy-duty cleaning tools such as pressure washers, scrubber dryers, and more. Because of this, an applicant may have to have some prior experience in this type of cleaning, or have a suitable qualification in this type of cleaning.
Check with your potential employer about what prior experience and/or qualifications are required for the position you are applying for.
