New CSCS card restrictions

Starting the 1st of July 2014, a new Level 1 qualification in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment will have to be obtained in order to gain a CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme Card), making the current Construction Site Operative Card invalid.

As one of Glasgow’s main construction recruitment agencies, we can provide workers with certification from the CSCS therefore it is essential for our workers to be aware of the risks of the construction industry, therefore it is essential to complete this health and safety course.

Alex Botha, chief executive of the British Safety Council, said: “Construction is a high risk industry, accounting for over aBritish Safety Council -CSCS Card quarter of all fatal injuries to employees in Great Britain, despite employing just 5% of all employees.

“The new Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment allows employers, training providers and colleges to provide non-skilled construction workers with an essential foundation in health and safety at work, which will help make construction sites safer and healthier for everyone.”

The introduction of this new program will cut the number of staff who are applying for the certification in order to get the quickest and easiest route into construction, will cut the number of construction injuries and will provide a reliable method of checking that site workers have the appropriate skills to work on construction sites safely and effectively.
